Pop quiz: how many of these were uttered or written by Libertarians?

@Liber: Well…. The Libertarian Party wasn’t around until 1971 sooooo I’d have to say that in the strict sense, most of these quotes were not uttered by Libertarians in the nominal sense. However, Libertarians tend to feel that their philosophy dates back to around Revolutionary times and espouse personal freedom and small, limited government. In that sense, the Libertarian philosophy has been around for ages, and these quotes deftly illustrate that.

Bob: I helped put the Libertarian Party on the Arizona ballot in 1968, so it’s been sometime before 1971. Plus I am/was libertarian long before there was that party; for me it’s always been more about philosophy than politics, but today I sure wish I had talked the talk thru all these years.

@Striker: If what you say is true (which, obviously, I have now way to verify thanks to the shield of anonymity provided by the Internet), I’d have to say that’s pretty sweet. Just for the record, I was going by Wikipedia’s dates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_Party_(United_States)

# An armed society is a polite society. – Robert A. Heinlein

Really? I have found the British (far fewer arms) far more polite generally than Americans.

# They have gun control in Cuba. They have universal health care in Cuba. So why do they want to come here? – Paul Harvey 8/31/94

This is just plain cheating. There is gun control in Canada, and universal health care – and Canadians do not swarm en masse to the United States. Most of us appreciate our country.

The cheating: to use one example that would seem to show that what you want is good, while excluding the masses of examples that would show that what you want is generally quite undesirable.

Poor logic is undesirable – and even dangerous.

Visit my site. Lots of reasons given for thinking well – plus the 2 major non-secret ingredients for good thinking.
