Hello everyone! Once again, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best reading out on the web that I’ve come across recently. Hope it provokes some interesting lines of thought for you!
No Gods or Kings: Objectivism in Bioshock
I recently purchased Bioshock for the PC, and it is literally one of the best games I have ever played, if not the best; and I’m not just talking about the gameplay or visuals, though both are stunning. There is real meat to the story and it raises some significat questions concerning an underwater utopian society gone awry with (what I consider) amoral objectivism. This is best read if you’ve purchased the game, which I highly recommend you do.
Mark Twain’s Thoughts on 3 Topics You’d Rather Not Discuss
I’ve only recently gained an appreciation for Mark Twain and his witty turns of phrase. This article expands on some of Twain’s thoughts on, as the title says, 3 topics you’d rather not discuss. The end result is a thought-provoking and witty exploration of a little bit that is Mark Twain.
Obama and McCain: The Two Luckiest Morons in America
Hilarity hits the left and the right in this sad but true editorial. How did we end up with these two clowns, and is one of them really going to take the Executive seat in November?
It Ain’t That Hard, Folks. Make Better Cars
I like Jay Leno, I really do. The guy’s got a good head on his shoulders, especially when it comes to one of his favorite topics: the automobile. (I’ve featured Jay Leno’s Garage on Mumbo Jumbo Daily before). But regardless of what you think about his monologue, the guy has a message that American automakers need to hear, that the consumers should be sending out.
The Eternal Value of Privacy
“If you aren’t doing anything wrong, what do you have to hide?” How would you answer this? Bruce Schneier deftly tackles the issue in his Wired.com commentary.
That wraps it up for this week’s Required Reading. I hope you enjoyed the list. I couldn’t include everything I wanted this time, which means you’ll just have to look forward to the next edition. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks!
