I don’t intend for Mumbo Jumbo Daily to become an Indiana Jones fan site, but given the recent movie and whatnot, there seems to be a lot of related news floating around.
That said, turns out a new script was leaked not too long ago that was (supposedly) written by Frank Darabont, also known as the director of The Shawshank Redemption ,The Green Mile, and more recently, The Mist. He’s no stranger to the Indiana Jones universe either, having worked on the Young Indiana Jones series for quite some time. The script was entitled Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods.
I’m not going to link to the screenplay here (because, quite frankly, I don’t need Paramount’s legal team coming down on me), nor have I read it, but most of the comments I have read indicate that even though it was a very early draft of the screenplay, it had tons of potential and that it was much better than the script that eventually got turned into the film.
One commenter, over at The International House of Mojo said,
Personally I think it’s a good deal better than the writing for the final movie was, particularly in the characterizations. It’s pretty obvious by now that the script that the final flick used was just a hodgepodge of all the rejected ones, assembled in such a way that would appease the individual desires of the Big Three, at the expense of cohesiveness.
Again, no linkage from me, but that shouldn’t be a problem for any enterprising internet sleuth!
