The Magna Carta and the Great Writ of Habeas Corpus is 793 years old today! One of the cornerstones of our oft-forgotten civil liberties, the Supreme court just voted to reinstate Habeas Corpus for detainees in Guantanamo.
No Free Man shall be taken or imprisoned, or be disseised of his Freehold, or Liberties, or free Customs, or be outlawed, or exiled, or any other wise destroyed; nor will We not pass upon him, nor condemn him, but by lawful judgment of his Peers, or by the Law of the Land. We will sell to no man, we will not deny or defer to any man either Justice or Right.
I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than to simply be thankful that this document exists, and that the founders of America were smart enough to include it in this country’s founding documents. In college they taught me how evil all of Western Civilization was. In real life, I’m learning just the opposite. This is part of all American’s heritage; so take some time and review this. It’s something to be proud of. Don’t take it for granted.

Amen brother.
