Ah yes, it’s almost that tie of year again. I’m a huge fan of Christmas, and one thing that delights me is free Christmas music! I was scouring archive.org one day for good Christmas music and I came upon this gem: An Old World Christmas by Barbara Schubert and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. From the album’s description:

Celebrate Christmas from around the world with Barbara Schubert and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra! This performance, featuring soprano Kimberly Jones, was given at Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on 09 December 2007.

Above is the entire streaming album, which you can download in it’s entirety for free, legally. Most users will probably want the entire album as VBR mp3’s, but Flac and OGG options exist as well (I’m a fan of flac).

Track 10 stands out to me; it’s particularly cinematic, but the whole album is pretty great so give it a listen!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving yesterday. We had about 40 people at my Great Aunt’s this year; it was a fantastic time that won’t be rivaled soon. The best part is, now that it’s over, we get to listen to some amazing Christmas music! (Sorry, I’m a sucker for old holiday songs!)

A little music comedy from Igudesman & Joo, “A Little Nightmare Music.”

Unfortunately, it looks like they may have plagiarized a bit…

Am I the only one who thinks the Igudesman & Joo version is better? It seems like they improved on the concept with the addition of the, for lack of a better word, “spotter” who comically catches and dispenses the rods, rather than just throwing them on the ground with a clash!

Either way, I can appreciate this because I’m taking piano lessons right now.

How to Block Facebook Ads

I am an avid Facebook user, as I’m sure many of you are, but if it’s one thing I hate it’s advertisements sprawling all over my nice, clean web pages! Adblock Plus, a fantastic extension for Firefox, used to take care of the majority of the ads for me but for some reason it hasn’t kept up with Facebook. I was inundated with ads I simply didn’t want to see, nor waste my bandwidth on, so I had to come up with a solution. Google turned up a simple answer to my problem via The Asbury Blog and I no longer have to put up with Facebook ads. Check it out:

How to block Facebook ads within the Firefox browser:

1. Go to this page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
2. Click: Add To Firefox (You might have to restart firefox at this point)
3. Under the Tools menu in Firefox, select Adblock Plus
4. Click the Add Filter button
5. Copy and paste the following filter: facebook.com#*(social_ad)
6. Click OK
7. Copy and paste the following filter: facebook.com#*(social_ad_advert)
8. Click OK
9. Close Firefox, then open it and go to Facebook - Adblock Plus should block all Facebook ads

What a Real Crisis is Like!

Mugabe’s Zimbabwe is experiencing hyperinflation and devaluation of their currency on a ludicrous scale! Humorland.wordmess.com has the full story and the unbelievable pictures detailing the economic crisis there. It would be a lot sadder if it weren’t so insane, and the people in the pics weren’t smiling. Hopefully Western Nations won’t have to learn this lesson the hard way and will be able to solve their own monetary crises by printing money with real value instead of easily inflated fiat currency.

The Prussian Education System and Socialism in America

Recently, I wrote an article for my friends on a closed social network about President-Elect Obama’s plan to require students to perform mandatory community service. In dissecting all the language (which has since been changed on the Change.gov website due to the backlash), I found it necessary to describe how we have our modern education system, and how it’s actually detrimental to students. I found this video that describes it perfectly. It’s very interesting and I’d like to share it with you.

It should be noted that Obama’s plans haven’t changed; they’ve merely been reworded to make them more acceptable. In fact, his White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, has some very scary things to say about a compulsory domestic draft, where all Americans aged 18 - 25 will be required to serve in a Domestic Military. If you value liberty at all, these should frighten you at the core.

North Korea recently supplied official photos of a “healthy” Kim Jong-Il, to combat rumors of his poor health and possible death.

Of course, there was the little problem that none of the people in the image had shadows.

Fakesensations - Isacc and the Secret Chord

Given the size, scope, and diversity of the Internet as a whole, it can be rather tough to find high-quality music out there. I know that I struggle to find well-produced music as I wade through the endless ambient and techno loops that are often freely available for legal download on any myriad of sites.

However, every so often I will stumble across a gem - and when I do I like to share it with you.

This week it’s Fakesensations first full album, Isacc and the Secret Chord.

I’m not going to say a whole lot about the album. It’s very well done and reminds of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band, although a few tracks (thankfully) deviate from that whole mode of operation. But the real reason I’m not going to say a whole lot about the album is because you can listen to it yourself via the Fakesenations website. Given that fact, there’s not really much reason for me describe in great detail what you can hear for yourself. Needless to say, this album is a lot of fun! It’s a great first release from a new talent, and best of all it’s completely free and legal to download and share!
