We Have a Curfew In Casablanca…
My brother quoted the line from this particular video today and I cracked up.
It’s Been Nearly 40 Years…
39 years ago yesterday, this was the front page of the New York Times:
Naturally, the New York Times “On This Day” website has the full text available.
Hard to believe no one has been to the moon since the Apollo missions ended all those years ago. You think we’d be able to muster the technology and resources in the interim, but apparently not…
I watched this great documentary on the Apollo missions a while back. It was called In the Shadow of the Moon . It was absolutely beautiful and extremely informative, composed largely of newly declassified NASA footage, interviews with the original Apollo astronauts, all presented by Ron Howard. Luckily, the film is up on Youtube, in 10 parts, all of which can be found here.
Easy and Cheap Homemade Bread for the Weekend
I can’t take credit for this one, but it’s so cool I had to re-post it. Admittedly, I’m a cooking novice. However, I am a critic of all things delicious. That’s why this simple and easy recipe for bread has me intrigued. This might make for a fun weekend project!
This post comes from the blog Get Rich Slowly by J.D. The recipe itself comes from the New York Times via Youtube, and is then improved upon by J.D. in the post.
Be sure to check out the improved recipe here. You’re not going to want to miss it!
Kaki King is Awesome
I really wish I could play like her. Maybe one day, but for now I can only mimic some Santana at best. Either way, I’m way too rusty for my own good and need to buy a new guitar so I can get back on track and learning more.
The Clap
This is a creative, entertaining and orginal short film that is very funny. Despite the character’s being complete oddballs, you are completely sympathetic towards them. Enjoy!
Rehab for Baby Sea Lions
Rehabbing baby sea lions must be a lot like raising an aquatic puppy. I love the beach, so this job has got to be one of the most rewarding ever.
The Infamous Double Slit Experiment
Quantum science is neat!
Banksy Revealed - Looks Like Harry Potter
Famed graffiti artist Banksy, whose real life identity is something of a preciously guarded secret, might have been ousted yesterday. The iconic and oft-imitated artist’s real identity is that of one Robin Gunningham, after a lengthy investigation by the Daily Mail.
Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for him? Many artists don’t receive recognition until after they are dead. Granted, he may now be facing a bunch of vandalism charges, but it’s nothing a few art shows can’t pay off, judging by some of his more recent hauls.

John McCain Hates Me.
What did I ever do to him?
Looks like he just doesn’t like anything he doesn’t understand. It seems fairly obvious to me that he fully supports living in a digital feudalism, with permanent tracking databases and regulation; including but not limited to thought regulation and controlling who says what online. Why, if it weren’t for the Internet, you wouldn’t be seeing this terribly inconvenient political video. If you were in Sen. McCain’s position, I mean, wouldn’t it be easier to just legislate against this kind of free speech? Never underestimate the power of dumb people in positions of authority. In regards to technology, I’d have to say that McCain is in need of remedial schooling.
Day of Defeat: Source Sale
I’m not one to talk about video games much on here (mostly because I’m probably already a big enough geek without having to write about games, and because game blogs are a dime a dozen, as I suppose most other blogs are as well…) but on Steam, only for today, you can get Day of Defeat: Source for just 5 bucks! I’ve got 25 minutes left of downloading before I try it, but knowing Valve and their long history of excellent games, this is a steal. But hurry! The sale ends today!
Art of Manliness Contest - Excellent!
I’ve already pointed my long time readers to one of my favorite blogs around, The Art of Manliness (coincidentally and completely tangentially, I have a good friend named Art and he is quite manly). Well, if you haven’t checked them out yet, you should, because they are running a sweet contest for Ritual Men’s Grooming Products, an excellent set of various drops, washes, and creams to groom your hairy self.
This is an 80 dollar kit and contains the following, according to Art of Manliness:
- Nature Calls Toilet Deodorizer Drops. This is for the first S of the Triple S. Just two drops obliterate odor. The woman in your life will definitely appreciate this.
- Trifecta Face, Body, and Hair Wash. The guys at ritual understand men like things simple. That’s why they formulated a product that can be used as face, body, and hair wash. One bottle and you’re good to go.
- The Whip Shaving Cream. A nice rich lathering cream that will feel really nice to apply with your badger brush. Contains aloe, and lidocaine to reduce burning and redness from shaving.
- The Balm Post Shave Gel. The Tea Tree Oil and Witch Hazel will continue to work throughout the day (or night) to soothe your skin and prevent irritation from shaving. It’s the perfect ending to your routine.
- Razor Rinse Shaving Blade Antiseptic. Use Razor Rinse on your razor before shaving to kill the bacteria that causes razor burn and bumps. This is a really cool product. While most shaving products work on treating razor burn and bumps after you shave, Razor Rinse prevents irritation before you even lay the cold steel blade to your face.
Excellent well. Be sure to drop by this post to see how to enter the contest, and stop looking (or at least smelling) like a slob in front of that computer all day! I kid, of course, but there are 4 different ways to enter, so be sure to check it out!
Return of the Blogger!
Hey folks!
Glad to say I’m a-okay and back in the USA! Wow, I’m sorry about that rhyme. Understand, I just came back from an amazing and unforgettable trip with some of the most brilliant apologists in the world today, in one of the most prestigious universities in existence. Oxford was an unbelievable and beautiful place. I learned more than I could hope to retain without multiple re-listenings. Luckily for me (and subsequently for you), all the lectures have been recorded and are currently being edited and placed online.
I realize I said I wanted to make a bit of a podcast from the lectures. I still do, and fully intend to, but it’s going to come a bit later than I originally wanted. There are a few reasons for this. My recording equipment consisted of a mono microphone embedded into the side of my mp3 player. While I can clean the sound up a bit with the few recordings I did capture, it wouldn’t be anywhere near the quality of what the techs at the lectures would have been able to capture. All those recordings are currently being edited and placed online. Hopefully I will have access to them soon and will be able to republish them. So if you are awaiting these, please be patient as I try to obtain the highest quality product for your education, refinement, and personal enrichment!
I took over 250 pictures while I was there. I’ll try to get a flickr gallery up so you could thumb through them at your leisure, but in the meantime, you’ll just have to salivate over this picture I took of the Radcliffe Camera - a building that was designed by James Gibbs when he was only 16. Makes you wonder what we’re doing wrong in education these days, eh?
Enjoy!
Join the Freedom March!
I’m a firm believer that everyone should be politically and socially active in their communities. It’s one of the big reasons I am a fan of Dr. Paul. He’s organizing the Freedom March in Washington D.C. on July 12th, and wants you to join! This could be history in the making! I really hope I can go. What a year for politics in general!
The Indonesian Mimic Octopus
I’m a sucker for nature documentaries. What an incredible creature!
Can You Even Imagine?
It must be incredible to be falling down the side of that aqueous mountain at such speeds.
Amazing Presidents
I randomly came across this, and it has to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. I don’t know where to find this comic, but I want it! The characterizations are priceless!
100 Year old Tortoise Adopts Baby Hippo
This is the cutest thing ever.
A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa , officials said The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean, then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

Twitter!
Hey all! As many of you know, I am leaving for England in, well, less than 24 hours as of this writing. It’s going to be hard for me to maintain the blog while I am away - I’ll have some scheduled posts to hold you over! - but if you want to follow my adventures, I’m now on twitter!
Check it out!

Human Body Explorer: The Best Interactive Media Site I’ve Seen
The Discovery Channel put together this great site on the capabilities of the human body. It’s a really great learning experience because it’s fun, visually stimulating, and always highly interesting. This is the way media should be done!
30 Day Fitness Challenge Wrap Up
(Note: This is day 28 in a 30 day series. If you like these posts, subscribe to the Mumbo Jumbo RSS feed at the top of the page!)
I realize this is a bit late in coming, but I wanted to put this together before I left the continent…
THE END!
Using a combination of intense workouts 3 - 4 times a week, keen dieting and even experimental fasting (which really isn’t that bad - in fact, I’m going to make it a weekly thing after I return from England), I wanted to see what I could accomplish in 30 days. Think of it as a reverse Super Size Me. If you haven’t seen that movie (why haven’t you seen it yet?!? Go rent it now!!), the director Morgan Spurlock saw how unhealthy he could get in 30 days by eating nothing but McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. By the end of the movie, his nutritionist was literally fearing for his life and his body had changed so dramatically, it turned out to be a real PR nightmare for McDonald’s.
So that was the original inspiration for it all, but yes, instead of gorging myself until I was fit to burst, I wanted to see how in shape I could get if I focused real hard on my health.
I also wanted to accomplish this using only what I had at home, and information I could find online. And for the next 30 days, I wanted to see what would happen.
